Magic links

A magic link onboards a customer with no code at all. You create the connection in the dashboard, copy a short link and send it by email or chat. Your customer opens it, enters their system credentials in Makini Link, and the connection is live.
The link looks like https://link.makini.io/l/<code>. It opens the same Makini Link flow a developer would launch with Launching Makini Link, already set up for this one connection.

Send a magic link#

1
Create the connection
In the dashboard, open Connections and click Create new. Fill in what you already know:
Connection name: for example, your customer's company name.
End user email: optional. Your customer can still correct it before they connect.
Platform: optional. When set, your customer connects to this platform and can't pick another.
Redirect URI: where your customer lands after connecting. It lists the redirect URIs registered in Settings → Application, except those with a * wildcard: a link returns to one address.
Metadata: optional key/value records for your own use, such as your internal account ID. Makini returns them with the connection.
Click Create.
2
Copy the link
Makini creates the connection and shows the magic link. Copy it and send it to your customer. The link works once, for 30 days.
3
Your customer connects
Your customer opens the link and lands in Makini Link, branded with your application's name and logo:
The platform you chose is already selected.
The connection name and email are prefilled. Those steps are skipped, and your customer can go back to correct them.
They enter their system credentials. Makini verifies them against the system before saving anything.
When they finish, the connection is active and Makini starts syncing.
4
Track the connection
Until your customer connects, the connection shows as Pending in Connections. To send the link again, click the connect icon on the row, or choose Connect from the row menu. Makini shows the link that's already live, so an address you've sent keeps working.

How long a link lasts#

A connection has one live magic link at a time.
EventWhat happens to the link
Your customer connectsThe link is used up. Opening it again says the connection is already set up.
30 days passThe link expires.
You change the connection's email, metadata or platformThe old link stops working and Makini shows you a new one to send.
You click Replace with a new linkThe old link stops working.
You delete the connectionThe link stops working.

Re-authorize a connection#

When a connection's credentials stop working, its status changes to Expired. Click the re-authorize icon on the row, or choose Re-authorize from the row menu, and send your customer the new link.
Your customer enters fresh credentials, which replace the stored ones. The connection keeps its ID, name and platform, so your existing references and access tokens keep working.
Magic links and your own Makini Link integration work side by side. Connections created either way appear in the same list and return the same data.
