  1. DELMIA Works

Connecting DELMIA Works

This guide walks you through connecting your DELMIA Works account through Makini Link.
Set aside about 15 minutes. DELMIA Works (formerly IQMS) keeps its data in an Oracle database, so Makini connects to that database directly. You'll need the database server's address, its Oracle service name, and a database account for Makini. Whoever looks after the DELMIA Works database at your company can give you all three.

Before you start#

You'll need help from your database administrator. Creating the account in Step 1 takes admin rights on the Oracle database. If that isn't you, send them this guide.
Least privilege by design. Makini needs read access only, so the account can be read-only and your data stays exactly as it is. It needs read (SELECT) access to the DELMIA Works tables and nothing more.
Don't use an administrator account. It's tempting to reuse an existing DBA or system login because it already works. Please don't: an account with admin rights on your production ERP is far more than this connection needs. A dedicated read-only account is safer, and your administrator can see exactly what it's used for.
Makini connects to the database directly over the internet. The server must accept connections from Makini. If it only accepts connections from inside your network, contact us before you start, so we can agree how to reach it.

Step 1: Create a read-only account#

Ask your database administrator to:
1.
Create an Oracle database account for Makini, with a strong password.
2.
Grant it read (SELECT) access to the tables in the DELMIA Works schema, which is usually called IQMS. No insert, update, delete or admin rights.
Keep the username and password somewhere safe for a moment. A password manager is best.

Step 2: Collect the connection details#

From the same administrator, get:
The host name or IP address of the Oracle database server
The port, if it isn't the Oracle default of 1521
The database's service name. This is the one people most often get wrong: it's the Oracle service name, not the SID and not the server's host name. On many installations it's IQMS.

Step 3: Enter your credentials#

1.
Fill in the form in Makini Link:
Database host: the server's host name or IP address, for example iqms.example.com
Port: already filled in with 1521. Change it only if your database uses a different port.
Service name: the Oracle service name from Step 2, for example IQMS
Username: the account from Step 1
Password: that account's password
2.
Under Advanced settings, Schema owner is optional and set to IQMS. Leave it unless your administrator tells you the DELMIA Works tables belong to a different schema.
3.
Click Connect.

Keeping the connection working#

Treat the password like any other password. Don't email it, don't put it in a chat message, don't save it in a shared document.
Things that will break the connection
Changing the account's password, or the password expiring under your database's password policy: enter the new password on the connection
Locking or dropping the account: create a new one and connect again
Removing the account's read access to the DELMIA Works tables
Moving the database to a different server or service name: update the connection
Firewall or network changes that block the route to the database

If something goes wrong#

The connection failed right after I clicked Connect.
It says it can't reach the server.
The error mentions permissions or a missing table.
Still stuck?
Send us a note describing which step you're on and what you're seeing. Don't include the password in that message.
