  1. MaintainX

Connecting MaintainX

This guide walks you through connecting your MaintainX account through Makini Link.
Set aside about 5 minutes. You'll need to sign in to MaintainX as the user whose API key the connection will use.

Before you start#

Check your MaintainX plan. MaintainX offers API access on its Premium and Enterprise plans. If your plan doesn't include it, you won't be able to generate an API key.
Generate the key from a shared company account if you can. A MaintainX API key belongs to the user who generates it and carries that user's permissions. If you generate it from your own personal login, the connection only sees what you can see, and it stops working if your account is removed from MaintainX. A dedicated account set up for integrations, with access to everything the connection needs, avoids all of that.

Step 1: Generate an API key in MaintainX#

1.
Sign in to MaintainX as the user from "Before you start".
2.
Go to Settings, then Integrations, then API Keys.
3.
Generate a new key.
4.
Copy the key and paste it somewhere safe for a moment. A password manager is best.
Treat the key like a password. Anyone who has it can act in MaintainX with that user's permissions. Don't email it, don't put it in a chat message, don't save it in a shared document.

Step 2: Enter your credentials#

1.
Go back to the Makini Link tab.
2.
Fill in one thing:
API key: the key you copied in Step 1
3.
Click Connect.

Keeping the connection working#

Things that will break the connection
The API key being deleted in MaintainX: generate a new one and enter it on the connection
The user who generated the key being removed from MaintainX: generate a new key from another account, then enter it on the connection
Removing permissions from that user: the connection loses access to what the user can no longer see

If something goes wrong#

The connection failed right after I clicked Connect.
I can't find API Keys in the settings.
It was working, now it isn't.
Still stuck?
Send us a note describing which step you're on and what you're seeing. Don't include the API key in that message.
