Use a dedicated user, not a person's login. Geotab has no separate API keys. The connection signs in as a MyGeotab user, with exactly that user's access. If you use your own login, the connection breaks whenever you change your password, and it stops working if you leave the company. A dedicated user set up just for this connection avoids all of that.Don't use an Administrator. Give the dedicated user a security clearance that covers only what the connection needs. Makini needs read access only, so the user doesn't need rights to change anything, but it does need to be able to view the data you want to connect. If you're not sure which clearance to pick, ask your MyGeotab administrator.Check the user's data groups. MyGeotab limits each user to the groups they're assigned. If the user can only see part of your fleet, the connection only sees that part too, and nothing warns you about it. For the whole fleet, assign the user to your company-wide group. The user needs a MyGeotab password. The connection signs in with a username and password. If your company signs in to MyGeotab only through single sign-on, make sure this user has its own MyGeotab password.
Every MyGeotab account lives in a database with its own name. It's a single word, not a web address. For example, Geotab's public demo database is called geotabdemo55.If you don't know your database name, ask your MyGeotab administrator.
Database: your database name from Step 1, for example geotabdemo55
User name: the MyGeotab username of the user from Step 2
Password: that user's password
Server (optional, under Advanced settings): leave this blank. Geotab finds the right server for your database on its own. Only fill it in if Geotab has told you to use a specific server, such as my23.geotab.com.
Treat the password with care. Anyone who has it can do everything that user can do in MyGeotab. Keep it in a password manager. Don't email it, don't put it in a chat message, don't save it in a shared document.
Things that will break the connection
Changing the user's password: enter the new password on the connection
The user being disabled or deleted: set up another user, then enter its details on the connection
Things that change what comes through without breaking anything
