  1. Amazon PayeeCentral

Connecting Amazon PayeeCentral

This guide walks you through connecting Amazon PayeeCentral, the portal Amazon suppliers use for invoicing and payment. Amazon exchanges these documents as EDI X12, so the connection is an X12 trading-partner connection with Amazon on the other side. Once connected, the purchase orders Amazon sends arrive as orders, and the invoices and ship notices you create are sent to Amazon as X12.
Set aside about 10 minutes, plus the time Amazon's EDI team needs on their side. You'll need your ISA qualifier and ID, Amazon's ISA qualifier and ID from your EDI setup with Amazon, and your Amazon EDI contact, who points Amazon's EDI system at a new address.

How it works#

The connection is one trading partner: Amazon. It gets an inbox of its own. Amazon delivers documents to that inbox and collects yours from it. If you supply more than one Amazon marketplace or business unit under separate EDI agreements, connect each one separately, so their documents never mix.
DocumentWhen Amazon sends itWhen you send it
850 Purchase OrderAn order from Amazon, as a sales order
855 Purchase Order AcknowledgmentThe status of Amazon's order
856 Ship NoticeA shipment against Amazon's order
810 InvoiceAn invoice for Amazon to pay
997 Functional AcknowledgmentMarks your document as acceptedSent for you, for every document received

Which way should you connect?#

SFTP inbox
Amazon's EDI system uploads files to a folder and downloads yours from another. This is what Amazon's EDI onboarding expects. Choose it unless your Amazon EDI contact asks for email.
Email inbox
Amazon sends documents as email attachments and receives yours the same way. Choose it only when your Amazon EDI contact has set that up for you.

Before you start#

Have these ready. They come from your EDI setup with Amazon and are the same values both sides put on every document.
Your ISA qualifier and Your ISA ID: how you are identified on the envelope. Amazon records them when it onboards you for EDI. The qualifier is two characters, most often ZZ, 01 (D-U-N-S) or 12 (phone number). The ID is up to 15 characters.
Partner ISA qualifier and Partner ISA ID: the same two values for Amazon, from the same setup.
X12 version: 4010 or 5010, whichever Amazon agreed with you.
Environment: Test while Amazon is certifying your documents, Production once Amazon has approved them.

Option A: Connect with an SFTP inbox#

Step 1: Decide how Amazon signs in#

Amazon's EDI system signs in with a password, an SSH key, or either one.
Password: make one up, at least 8 characters, and keep it in a password manager. You'll give it to your Amazon EDI contact in Step 3.
SSH key: ask your Amazon EDI contact for the public key their system connects with. It is one line that starts with ssh-ed25519, ssh-rsa or ecdsa-sha2.

Step 2: Enter the details#

Choose SFTP inbox as the connection method, then fill in:
SFTP password for your partner, Partner's SSH public key, or both
Your company name, and Trading partner name (for example Amazon)
Your ISA qualifier and Your ISA ID
Partner ISA qualifier and Partner ISA ID
X12 version and Environment
Click Connect.

Step 3: Give Amazon the address#

Open the connection in Makini. The SFTP inbox card shows the Host, Port and Username; each has a copy button. The same details are under Inbox address in the connection's menu.
Send your Amazon EDI contact those three values, plus the password if you set one. Amazon uploads documents to /inbox and downloads yours from /outbox.
Send the password separately from the address, and not by email. Anyone with both can deliver documents in Amazon's name.

Option B: Connect with an email inbox#

Step 1: Find out where Amazon sends from#

Ask your Amazon EDI contact for the email address their EDI system sends from. That is Partner's email address, and it is also where your documents are sent. If Amazon sends from more than one address, note the others too.
Mail is accepted only from the addresses you list, and only when it really comes from Amazon's mail system.

Step 2: Enter the details#

Choose Email inbox as the connection method, then fill in:
Partner's email address
Other addresses your partner sends from, comma-separated, if there are any
Your company name, and Trading partner name (for example Amazon)
Your ISA qualifier and Your ISA ID
Partner ISA qualifier and Partner ISA ID
X12 version and Environment
Click Connect.

Step 3: Give Amazon the address#

Open the connection in Makini. The Email inbox card shows the address to send documents to. Give it to your Amazon EDI contact.
Each document travels as an attachment, one document per file. Your documents arrive at Amazon's address from that same inbox address, so replies and new documents go to one place.

Keeping it working#

Things that will stop documents arriving
Amazon's sending address changes: add the new one on the connection
The SFTP password is changed on one side only: set the new password on the connection and give it to your Amazon EDI contact
Either side changes its ISA qualifier or ID: update the connection so both sides still match
Moving from test to production
Change Environment to Production on the connection once Amazon has approved your test documents. The inbox address stays the same.

If something goes wrong#

A field is marked when I click Connect.
Amazon can't sign in over SFTP.
Amazon's email was refused.
A purchase order arrived but I don't see an order.
Still stuck?
Send us a note with the connection's name and what Amazon's EDI team sees. Don't include the SFTP password in that message.
