  1. eMaint X4

Connecting eMaint X4

This guide walks you through connecting your eMaint X4 account through Makini Link.
Set aside about 5 minutes. You'll need your eMaint instance address, and the username and password of the eMaint user the connection should use.

Before you start#

Use a dedicated integration user. eMaint connects as a named eMaint user. Whatever that user can do in eMaint, the connection can do, and every record the connection creates or changes is stamped with that user's name. If you use your own personal login, your activity and the connection's get mixed together, the connection breaks whenever you change your password, and it stops working entirely if you leave the company.
Give that user only the rights the connection needs. eMaint permissions are set area by area (work orders, assets, parts, purchase orders and so on), so you don't need to use an administrator account. Your eMaint administrator can create the user and grant the rights. If you're unsure which areas you'll need, talk to us before you restrict them.
Some areas depend on your eMaint subscription. Which optional modules your company has licensed varies from customer to customer, and so does what the connection can reach.

Step 1: Get the user and your instance address#

1.
Ask your eMaint administrator to create the integration user described above, or to confirm which existing user to use. Note its username and password.
2.
Find your eMaint instance URL. eMaint hosts each customer on a numbered server, so the address looks like https://x49.emaint.com, with a different number for different customers. If you're not sure which one is yours, ask your eMaint administrator.

Step 2: Enter your credentials#

1.
Go back to the Makini Link tab.
2.
Fill in three things:
eMaint instance URL: your eMaint address from Step 1, for example https://x49.emaint.com. Enter just the address, nothing after .com.
Username: the eMaint username of the integration user
Password: that user's eMaint password
3.
Click Connect.

Keeping the connection working#

Treat the password with care. Anyone who has it can do in eMaint whatever the integration user can do. Keep it in a password manager and don't share it by email or chat.
Things that will break the connection
Changing that user's password: enter the new password on the connection
The user being disabled or deleted: you'll need another user, then start again from Step 1
Removing rights from the user: the connection loses access to those areas of eMaint

If something goes wrong#

The connection failed right after I clicked Connect.
Some information is missing.
It was working, now it isn't.
Still stuck?
Send us a note describing which step you're on and what you're seeing. Don't include the password in that message.
