  1. Cityworks

Connecting Cityworks

This guide walks you through connecting your Cityworks AMS site through Makini Link.
Set aside about 10 minutes. You'll need the address of your Cityworks Services and a Cityworks login for Makini.

Before you start#

Least privilege by design. Makini needs read access only, so the login doesn't need rights to edit records.
Use a login made just for this connection. Don't reuse a person's login. A dedicated read-only integration user keeps working when people change jobs or passwords, and your administrator can see exactly what it's used for. If you don't have one, ask your Cityworks administrator to create it.
What that login is licensed for matters. Cityworks licenses its web services separately. If the login isn't licensed for one of them, that part simply doesn't come through, and the rest of the connection still works.
Makini connects to the Cityworks server directly over the internet. The server must accept connections from Makini. If it only accepts connections from inside your network, contact us before you start, so we can agree how to reach it.

Step 1: Find your Cityworks Services address#

Every Cityworks installation has its own address. Makini needs the address of the site's Services, which looks like:
https://<host>/<site>/Services
For example, https://cityworks.example.gov/CityworksSite/Services. It ends in /Services. If you're not sure what yours is, ask your Cityworks administrator.

Step 2: Enter your credentials#

1.
Fill in the form in Makini Link:
Cityworks Services URL: the address from Step 1, ending in /Services
Login name: the Cityworks login for Makini
Password: that login's password
2.
Click Connect.

Keeping the connection working#

Treat the password like any other password. Don't email it, don't put it in a chat message, don't save it in a shared document.
Things that will break the connection
Changing the login's password: enter the new password on the connection
Disabling or deleting the login: create a new one and connect again
Moving Cityworks to a new address: update Cityworks Services URL on the connection
Firewall or network changes that block the route to the Cityworks server
Changing which web services the login is licensed for doesn't break the connection, but it changes what comes through.

If something goes wrong#

The connection failed right after I clicked Connect.
Some of my Cityworks data isn't coming through.
It was working, now it isn't.
Still stuck?
Send us a note describing which step you're on and what you're seeing. Don't include the password in that message.
