This guide walks you through connecting Fishbowl Advanced through Makini Link.
Set aside about 15 minutes. You'll need your Fishbowl server's address, a Fishbowl user for Makini, and a Fishbowl administrator to approve Makini once.
Makini connects to your Fishbowl server's API. Fishbowl Advanced serves its API on its own port, 2456 unless someone changed it. You can see the port in Fishbowl Server Administration.Use a user made just for this connection. Makini signs in as this user, so it sees and does exactly what the user's access rights allow. Anything Makini changes is recorded under this user too. A personal login mixes your own activity with the connection's, and the connection stops working when that person leaves. The user can't have multi-factor authentication turned on.Makini uses one Fishbowl user license while it works. Fishbowl counts every signed-in session against your user licenses. Makini signs in only while it reads or changes data and signs out after a few idle minutes. If every license is in use at that moment, Fishbowl turns Makini away until one is free.An administrator approves Makini once. Fishbowl asks an administrator to approve each new app that signs in. Makini appears there as Makini. Most Fishbowl servers sit on your own network. If yours can't be reached from the internet, you'll turn on Connect to on-prem system via VPN/Firewall on the same form in Step 3. Have your network details ready, or your network team nearby.
This is your Fishbowl server's address plus its API port, for example http://fishbowl.example.com:2456. Use https:// only if your Fishbowl server has a certificate installed for its API.Enter just the address and port. Leave off anything after the port, such as /api.
Ask your Fishbowl administrator to create a user for Makini, with a strong password. Give it access to the modules you want to connect: parts, inventory, vendors, customers, purchase orders, sales orders, manufacture orders and transfer orders. If you want Makini to create or change records, the user needs rights for that too.Keep the password somewhere safe for a moment. A password manager is best.
A Fishbowl administrator opens the Fishbowl client and goes to Settings → Integrated Apps.
2.
They find Makini in the list and approve it.
3.
Back in Makini Link, click Connect again.
The Integrated app name field
Integrated app name, under the advanced settings, is the name Makini signs in with. Leave it as Makini unless your administrator asks for another name. Changing it later means approving the new name in Fishbowl again.
